Chasing the Cape 1000
Man, what a week. If you ever needed a reminder that the Western Cape has some of the greatest driving roads on the planet, the 2026 Cape 1000 just served it up on a silver platter. Billed as South Africa’s most beautiful drive, this year's 1000-mile grand tour was an absolute movie.

From the starting line at the V&A Waterfront, over Chapman's Peak, out to George, and sweeping back through Hermanus, we watched a proper multi-million-rand convoy stretch its legs. We’re talking everything from jaw-dropping vintage classics to fire-breathing modern supercars. It’s not just a rally; it’s a petrolhead’s ultimate dream.

Of course, putting vintage metal through its paces over passes like the Outeniqua isn’t without a bit of sweat. There’s always some roadside spanner-swinging and overheating drama, but that's exactly what gives this event its soul. It’s the camaraderie, the crackle of exhausts bouncing off the mountainsides, and seeing these magnificent machines driven exactly the way they were meant to be.

We spent five days chasing the pack, soaking up the coastal breeze, and capturing the pure, high-octane magic on the road. If you weren't parked on the sidelines catching the action, you missed a serious show.
Dust, Drama, and a Proper Record: Pieter Zeelie Owns Simola 2025

KNYSNA - Man, what a weekend. The 15th edition of the Simola Hillclimb brought the heat, the noise, and some absolute magic on the tarmac. If you wanted a reminder of why this is the best motorsport event in the country, Pieter Zeelie just gave us all a masterclass.

Going up against the usual heavy-hitting, all-wheel-drive Nissan GT-Rs, Zeelie rocked up in his rear-wheel-drive Toyota MR2 Super GT and basically told everyone to hold his beer.

He didn't just take the King of the Hill title in the Modified Saloons; he completely smashed the record. We're talking a blisteringly quick 37.090 seconds up the 1.9km hill during the Top 10 Shootout. That makes him the first "tin-top" driver to properly shatter the 40-second barrier. Sho.

It wasn't without a bit of a sweat, though. A cheeky electrical gremlin popped up during the Class Finals, forcing the pit crew to dial back the boost. But Zeelie and his team are pros, bouncing back when it mattered most to finish a clear 1.280 seconds ahead of the pack.

We were right there on the sidelines, soaking up the high-octane fumes and capturing the madness. It’s days like these watching a driver push man and machine to the absolute ragged edge that make you love South African motorsport.
